Vivo NEX Review: Innovative smartphone, still not the game changer

After the successful launch of Vivo X21, the company has come up with yet another technologically superior device, the Vivo NEX in India. Let us peep into the common features of the phone.

The Vivo NEX is by far the most attractive devices launched by Vivo till date, with the finest combination of glass and metal.  The back is made up of glass that has a grey speckle, which gives the necessary bling to the phone. There is absolutely no notch on the display screen that gives it a seamless look. The phone has a heavy body and weighs 199 gms. It becomes a bit bulky to hold with one hand. The charming factor of the phone is the pop-up module for the 8MP front camera. Overall, the flagship has least bezels making it look stunning from the front and the back as well.

Display and processor

Perhaps the most important aspect of this phone is its superior display quality. The handset features a 6.59  FHD+ Super AMOLED display with 2316×1080 pixels. The top-end device comes with 91.24- percent screen-to-body ratio. The display gives a nice viewing experience with vibrant and saturated colors. The display fingerprint scanner is not its best and takes a while to unlock the phone.

NEX comes with Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with 8GB RAM. The phone runs smoothly on Snapdragon 845 and gives an excellent gaming experience. It is surely one of the best smartphones for heavy gamers coupled with top Qualcomm’s best chip.

Vivo Nex carries an 8MP pop-up selfie camera, which is one of the highlights of the phone. The handset has dual camera setup on the back with 12MP featuring f/1.8 aperture, four-axis optical image stabilization and secondary 5MP sensor. The camera clicks nice detailed photos and the low light condition pictures are also decent. However, the rear camera is not that good compared to what its competitors are offering. The likes of Galaxy S9 and iPhone 8 looks ahead of Vivo NEX in terms of optics.

Software & battery

The device runs on Android 8.0 Oreo on the top of Fun touch UI. The OS looks clean and smooth but the overall user experience was not good. The battery life of the phone is excellent accompanied by a 22.5 W fast charger that charges the phone in under 3 hours.

Vivo NEX is an innovative device with a couple of unique features. However, the Vivo flagship can’t be compared to Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 2 and iPhone 8. Overall, NEX is a decent smartphone, if priced less Rs 44,990, it could be a good option.
