Nokia Lumia 625 hands on & first impressions

Lumia 625, Nokia’s biggest Lumia was launched on Thursday . Priced at Rs 19,999, it has got 4.7-inch IPS LCD touchscreen display. After getting the Windows Phone 8 Amber update, 625 has got many features including the Data sense, Data check and Glance Screen.

If you are planning to buy a smartphone under Rs 20,000, Lumia 625 is a cool phone to check out but you should see other phones including the Canvas 4, Lumia 720 and Lumia 820.

Check our hands on the Nokia Lumia 625 and it’s your decision to buy this phone at Rs 19,999 or not.

Design & Display

625 looks like Lumia 820 in terms of design. The curved edges make the phone cute and now you’ll be thinking that it’ll easy to hold the phone. But at 159g, it feels chunky when held. But it’s slim at 9.2mm. If you see its shell carefully, you’ll see that it is semi-transparent. That’s awesome.

Its dimensions are 133.3 x 72.3 x 9.2mm. Lumia 625 has got all the buttons on its right including the volume, power/lock and camera. Nokia Lumia 625 comes in five favourite colors – black, white, yellow, orange and green. Now you have lot of to show off. The story doesn’t end here.

4.7-inch display is quite big for a mid-range phone. Its 480 x 800 pixels screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

User Interface & Features

As I mentioned before, Nokia Lumia 625 runs on Windows Phone 8 but the Amber update is available. (The Lumia 625 used here has Windows Phone 8 Amber update). Running on a Snapdragon S4 processor (dual-core 1.2GHz), Lumia 625 is a nice device to get your hands on. HERE Drive and HERE Maps is available on this device.

Hands on the Lumia 625

Lumia 625 comes with 8GB internal memory (expandable up to 64GB via microSD) and 512MB RAM.

All about -Amber update

Windows Phone 8 Amber update or ‘Amber’ is the latest update by Microsoft for all the smartphones running on Windows Phone 8, especially the Lumia range. It will have-

  • Data Sense
  • FM Radio
  • Smart Camera app
  • Nokia Pro app
  • Glance Screen
  • Data Check

Lumia 625 sports a 5MP rear camera with autofocus, 4x digital zoom and LED flash. But the front camera is only 0.3MP. That’s a negative point. Nokia could’ve improved this.

This device is fueled by a 2000mAh non-removable battery. You can play music for 90hours and videos for 6.8hours. That’s a long time.

At last, I’ve got a chance to get this thing off my hands. Nokia Lumia 625 is truly an affordable smartphone with a big 4.7-inch screen. Nokia says that 625 is bigger, better and faster. We agree the ‘bigger’ and ‘faster’ points. But Lumia 625 lacks innovation, thus we can’t say it ‘better’.
