Micromax Canvas 4: Hands On

Priced at Rs 17,999, Micromax Canvas 4 is an innovative smartphone.

But the processing speed may not match needs of Indian mobile phone users as we observed slow speed when opening a video captured on the latest Canvas 4.

Slow processing speed was there when we shifted from video shoot feature for sending an SMS. 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor may not be enough for this handset.

For Rs 17,999, aluminum body of the latest smartphone, which is available in both black and white colors, will be attractive in India. Mobile phone users will not have the “may slip from hands” feeling because the material offers better grip to the user. Since the device is light weight phone, you can hold it continuously.

Hands on the Canvas 4

Canvas 4’s flip cover features Surface Touch technology. This technology allows the user to use the screen of the phone even when it is covered by the cover.

The 5-inch smartphone with 16:9 HD IPS full touch display offers good look — especially the phone in white color. Edges are neatly designed and carved for better perfection.

Canvas 4 runs on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Mobile phone users may not find any innovation here as most of the latest phones come with this OS.

Micromax has tried to innovate this time with Canvas 4. 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera is a special value for money for users.

Besides high capacity camera, there are other innovations as well.

Canvas S4 enables users to take vertical panorama shots with its innovative camera. Mobile phone users can move their device from top to bottom, instead of left to right, to take a panorama shot of tall objects in a single frame. For instance, you can picture Kutub Minar in one shot without hassles.

Utilizing the video preview feature, Micromax Canvas 4 users can check out a short preview of a video even while watching a separate video. This is to encourage multi-tasking.

To pause a video on the phone, mobile user needs to look away. There’s a disadvantage here. If a user does not to see a part of the video and stay away from the purview of the screen, the video will pause.

Canvas 4 also ensures that users will benefit from 360 degree panorama – Horizontal and Vertical.

There’s multi-screen option. Users can see video in half portion of the screen and see other content in the other half of the screen.

Though we could not check the quality of 2000 mAh battery, it is adequate to run this phone.

16GB NAND flash memory expandable up to 32GB and 1 GB RAM will come with the latest smartphone.

Innovation does not stop here.

How do you unlock your phone? By swipe, pattern lock or face recognition? Canvas 4 allows mobile users to unlock the phone by shaking it or blowing on Canvas 4.
