Smartphone price trends in 2014 in India

Apple, Samsung, Sony and other smartphone vendors dropped price of their handsets to compete in the Indian mobile market.

Vendors cut price of the devices to clear out stocks in anticipation of a new product. To make sure all the units are sold, the prices of various smartphones are dropped from time to time.

Apple iPhone 5S

iPhone 5S was Apple’s flagship smartphone of 2013. The device was launched at a price of Rs 53,500. The phone can now be purchased at a price of Rs 38,400.

The device sports a 4 inch IPS display with 1136 x 640 pixel resolution and is powered by a 1.3 GHz dual core processor paired with 1GB RAM.

It comes in 16GB/32GB/64GB variants and boasts an 8MP rear camera with a 1.2 MP front camera. It also features a fingerprint scanner in-built within the home button.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Launched at a price of Rs 51,500, the Galaxy S5 is now available for a price of Rs 32,999.

The device boasts a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad core Krait 400 processor backed by 2GB RAM.

It has a 16MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera with 16GB/32GB internal memory which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

Sony Xperia Z3

Sony launched the Xperia Z3 at a price of Rs 51,042, but now the price is available for Rs 43,712.

The Xperia Z3 has a 5.2 inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad core Krait 400 processor with 3GB RAM. The phone has 20.7 MP rear camera and a 2.2 MP front camera with 16GB/32GB internal storage and 128GB via microSD card.

It is fuelled by a 3100mAh battery that provides up to 890 hours of standby time and 16 hours of talk time.

HTC One M8

The company introduced the One M8 at a price of Rs 49,990, but now the price has fallen to Rs 38,798 in India.

The phone sports a 5 inch Super LCD 3 display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor paired with 2GB RAM.

The device boasts a Dual 4MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera with 16GB/32GB internal memory expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

It has 2600mAh battery that claims to offer 271 hours of standby time and 14 hours of talk time.

LG G3

LG’s flagship smartphone was launched at price of Rs 47,990, but is now selling at Rs 36,799 via e-commerce channels.

LG G3 sports a 5.5 inch True HD-IPS LCD display with 1400 x 2560 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.5 GHz quad core Krait 400 processor with 3GB RAM.

It has a 13MP camera that boasts of Optical Image Stabilization+ (OIS+) and laser auto focus and a 22.1MP front camera with 32GB internal storage and 128 GB external storage memory.

The phone has a 3000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 was launched at a price of Rs 49,990. The phablet is now selling at a price of Rs 34,180.

The device boasts a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad core Krait 400 processor with 3GB RAM.

The phone has 13MP rear camera with 2MP front camera. The phone comes with 16/32/64 GB variants and supports microSD card up to 64GB.

It has 3200mAh battery that offers 420 hours of standby time and 21 hours of talk time.

HTC Desire 816

The smartphone is available for Rs 23,459 against the launch price of Rs 27,390.

The device sports a 5.5 inch Super LCD 2 display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. The phone has a 1.6 GHz quad core Cortex A7 processor with 1.5 GB RAM.

The device boasts a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash and 5MP front camera with 8GB internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The phone’s 2600mAh battery offers 737 hours of standby time and 21 hours of talk time.

Motorola Moto X

Motorola has slashed the price of the first generation of Moto X to Rs 17,599 from Rs 23,999.

The device features a 4.7 inch AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual core Krait processor.

It has a 10MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front camera and comes in 16/32/64 GB internal memory options.

Motorola Moto X’s 220 mAh battery offers up to 576 hours of standby time and 13 hours of talk time.

Nokia Lumia 1520

Nokia Lumia 1520 is available for Rs 34,160 against the launch price of Rs 47,000.

It has a 6-inch Full HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and runs on a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM.

The device packs a 20MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a 1.2 MP front camera with 16GB internal storage that can be extended to 64GB via microSD card.

Nokia Lumia 1520’s 3400mAh battery delivers 768 hours of standby time and 27 hours of talk time.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

The latest price of Sony Xperia Z Ultra is Rs 18,399. It was launched at price of Rs 28,331.

The device comes with a 6.4 inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz quad core Krait 400 processor with 2GB RAM.

The smartphone boasts an 8MP rear camera with auto focus and has a 2MP front camera with 16GB internal memory which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD card.

The device is fuelled by a 3050mAh battery that provides up to 790 hours of standby time and 14 hours of talk time.

Huawei Honor 6

Huawei also recently slashed the price of this device to Rs 17,999 after launching at Rs 19,999.

It comes with a 5 inch IPS LCD touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz quad core Cortex-A15 processor paired with 3GB RAM.

The device sports a 13MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5MP front camera with 16/32 GB internal memory and 64GB external memory.

Micromax Canvas Knight A350

Though the company launched Canvas Knight A350 at a price of Rs 19,999, the price crashed to Rs 13,689.

The phone has a 5 inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The device is powered by an Octa-Core from MediaTek 2GHz True Octa-Core MT6592T processor with 2GB RAM.

The phone has 16MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front camera with 32GB internal storage capacity. It’s 2350 mAh battery with up to 175 hours of standby time and 7 hours of talk time.

LAVA Iris X1

Lava Iris X1 also suffered price drop from Rs 7,999 to Rs 6,999. It features the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, 1.2 GHz quad core Broadcom BCM23550 processor powered by 1GB RAM and 1800 mAh battery.

Iris X1 sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS (854 x 480 pixels) display, 8.9 mm thickness and 138 grams in weight. The dual SIM Iris X1 comes with 3G connectivity apart from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth.
