Nokia has launched the Android-based Nokia X series of smartphones in India. Nokia X, the first in the series, is available for a price of Rs 8,599.
Other two smartphones in the family—Nokia X+ and Nokia XL—will be available in the next 60 days, Nokia said.
Nokia X series runs on Nokia X software platform based on Android. However, the OS does not have many key features typical of Android including Google Play store, Chrome, Google Maps and the like. Nokia has also custom designed the user interface with its own live tiles, a design inspired by Windows Phone OS.
Nokia X phones, on the other hand, will have most of the features from Windows platform including Bing search, Skype and OneDrive file storage.
Nokia X series was unveiled at the recently held Mobile World Congress.
Nokia X is the entry-level model in the family. The Nokia X+ is advanced with more memory and storage. The Nokia XL has a 5-inch screen, 5 megapixel rear-facing and 2 megapixel front-facing camera.
Nokia X is a dual SIM phone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor. It also supports third party apps including BBM, Plants vs Zombies 2, Viber, Vine and Twitter.
