MapmyIndia launches free Explore app for Windows 8 phones

MapmyIndia has launched free Explore app for Windows 8 phones.

The digital mapping company will add Explore map soon for Android phone users. Android users can find Explore app on the Google Play store.

Interestingly, Windows 8 phones do not have dominant position in India. Android OS – mainly available on Samsung phones – is the number one OS in India. Lumia phones that come with Windows 8 phones are yet to pick up in the fastest growing mobile phone market in the world.

The free application helps the users to find places like ATMs, restaurants, petrol pumps, hospitals etc. Apart from being a city guide the app has a social interface also.

The users can pin favorite hangouts, rate and review popular places around their location and follow other “Explorers”. See an activity feed of what others are doing on Explore.

According to MapmyIndia, a provider of digital map data, navigation, tracking and LBS products, and GPS & GIS based systems integration services, the new social-navigation app is the third in the series of apps it has launched for the Windows 8 platform.

The New Delhi‐based ISO 9001‐2012 company claims that the Locate app and Real-time traffic on MapmyIndia maps have generated an overwhelming user response on both Windows and Android platforms.
