LG Electronics, the Korean device maker, today said it sold 16.8 million smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2014 with an annual growth of 39 percent.
Thanks to its smartphone performance, LG’s overall revenue rose 7.4 percent to KRW 14.92 trillion or $14.54 billion, while operating profit doubled to KRW 461.3 billion or $449.61 million in Q3 2014.

For comparison, Huawei, one of the rivals of LG, shipped 16.8 million smartphones in Q3 2014. Huawei said Ascend P7 and Ascend Mate7 contributed to the success of its smartphone shipments.
Chinese phone maker ZTE did not share specific data on smartphone shipments during Q3 2014 though it said mobile device business reported 40 percent increase in revenue supported smart devices and 4G terminals.
LG Mobile Communications Company, its mobile division, posted sales of KRW 4.25 trillion or $4.14 billion and operating income of KRW 167.4 billion or $163.16 million.
LG expects to strengthen its positioning in the global smartphone market with its G Series and L Series III models despite the landscape becoming more competitive.
