Samsung slashes price of Galaxy Gear smartwatch to Rs 19,075

Samsung India has slashed the price of Galaxy Gear smartwatch to Rs 19,075.

The company launched the smartwatch in late September at Rs 22,990 in India, ahead of the festival season.

India’s biggest smartphone vendor could not generate enough orders for the costly smartwatch.

Recently, BlackBerry cut the price of BlackBerry Q smartphone to attract more buyers in India during the new-year celebration.

The price cut of Rs 3,915 for Galaxy Gear smartwatch is unlikely to revive market demand for smartwatches in India, said traders in Delhi.

Samsung in November announced that it had sold 800,000 units of the model globally since launch. The company, which is the number one smartphone vendor in India, did not share India specific data on smartwatch.

Galaxy Gear works only with Samsung smartphone and tablets powered by Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) operating system. It features 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, screen resolution of 320x320p, pixel density of 277ppi, 1.9MP camera, 315mAh battery, etc.

Apple, Huawei and ZTE are currently planning to launch their own smartwatches. Qualcomm, chip vendor, launched its own smartwatch as well.
