BlackBerry India has reduced the price of Z30 smartphone to Rs 34,990 from Rs 39,990.
The price reduction is happening at a time when Samsung announcing its flagship Galaxy S5 for around Rs 51,000 to Rs 55,000.
Samsung India — IT and Mobile country head Vineet Taneja also said the company will not slash the price of Samsung Galaxy S4 in the wake of the launch of Galaxy S5.
The Ontario, Canada-based BlackBerry said the price reduction to BlackBerry Z30, the company’s 5-inch BlackBerry 10 smartphone, is under a limited period offer as part of BlackBerry India’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
The special price is valid for a period of 60 days and will be available at all BlackBerry retail outlets in the country.
“We have seen a phenomenal response to our initial promotional offer on BlackBerry Z10 and are confident we will see similar off take for the 5-inch screen BlackBerry Z30 that combines technology and style quotient in one device. This anniversary price of Rs 34,990 will therefore ensure that consumers are able to experience the latest and best technology at an attractive cost,” said Hitesh Shah, director, channel sales, BlackBerry India.
BlackBerry does not feature in the top 5 list of smartphone vendors in India. The smartphone market is dominated by Samsung.
In February, BlackBerry slashed the price of Z10, the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, to Rs 17,990. The company recently replenished the stocks of Z10 after it was sold out after receiving 60 percent price cut.
BlackBerry Z30 runs BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2. It features a 1.7GHz dual-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and an expandable memory card slot that supports up to 64GB of additional storage. It features a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 X 1280pixels. The Z30 comes with a 2,880 mAh battery.
The white BlackBerry Z30 will be exclusively available on Flipkart at the same price of Rs 34,990, BlackBerry said.
