IFA 2014 live: Asus unveils its first smartwatch – the ZenWatch

ASUS has officially revealed the ASUS ZenWatch at the IFA conference in Berlin. It is company’s first ever Android wear which is developed in partnership with Google.

Earlier this year ASUS indicated their interest towards producing their own Android smartwatch. The smartwatch is priced at €199 or $260.

The smartwatch has some advanced features like Watch Unlock, TapTap, Cover to Mute, and Find My Phone. There are two additional features, Remote Camera and Presentation Control are available by using ZenWatch with the ASUS Remote Camera and ASUS Remote Link smartphone apps.

Watch Unlock feature allows the user to unlock their smartphone or tablet by just touching the watch face. Users can unlock their device without typing the password everytime.

With TapTap function users can also assign a specific ZenWatch function that will start when the user double tap on the watch face.

Remote Camera provides users with photographic opportunities by displaying their smartphone’s camera viewfinder remotely on ZenWatch. This gives users freedom to take pictures from creative angles where the viewfinder would be difficult to see.

Another unique feature of th ZenWatch is Cover to Mute which lets users mute an incoming call just by placing their hand over the face of smartwatch.

In case of misplaced phone, users can use the Find My Phone function of the ZenWatch. It helps user in finding the phone by ringing it remotely.

Even the misplaced ZenWatch can be found by using the ZenWatch Manageron app as it makes the ZenWatch to vibrate and flash.

ZenWatch has neatly designed body and has curved glass design. It sports a 1.63-inch curved 320×320 AMOLED display.

It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 512MB of RAM.

The device has a internal memory storage of 4GB and 3G connectivity so the watch can be used without a smartphone pairing.

It boasts Bluetooth 4.0, a bio sensor which can measure heart rate, and water proof up to IP55 rating.

It will challenge the likes of the Moto 360, and LG and Samsung’s first Android Wear smartwatches launched earlier this year.
