Samsung offers Galaxy A5 and A3 metal phones to take on Xiaomi in China

Korean devices maker Samsung Electronics is stepping up its presence in China with two metal phones — Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 – to take on #1 smartphone brand Xiaomi.

The launch is aimed at reclaiming its position as the number one smartphone brand in China from Xiaomi, which faced allegations for copying Apple devices. Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3, two slim phones, will also assist Samsung to improve its global smartphone market share, according to IDC, that dipped significantly to 23.8 percent in Q3 2014 from 32.5 percent in Q3 2013.

Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3 will be available in colors such as Pearl White, Midnight Black, Platinum Silver, Soft Pink, Light Blue and Champagne Gold. “Both devices empower younger consumers to easily capture meaningful moments, connect to social media and share their daily lives,” said Samsung.

The Galaxy A5 and A3 come with 5MP front camera for addressing youth demand for taking selfies. Photo-taking features include Wide Selfie, Palm Selfie, Animated GIF, Beauty Face Features, and Rear-cam Selfie. The device is supported by 8MP rear camera.

Users can quickly and easily share photos or videos on their social media channels.

In addition, the Galaxy A5 and A3 are equipped with Super AMOLED display and Adaptive Display technology to deliver clearer images.

The Galaxy A5 and A3 have a Quad Core 1.2 GHz processor.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha had a metal body edges. But its backside was not built by metal. The industry was waiting for  a new look Samsung phone. Both the latest smartphones have the traditional looks of old Samsung devices.

The main difference between Galaxy A3 and A5 are display, storage, camera and battery.

Galaxy A3 features 4.5” qHD Super AMOLED display, while Galaxy A5 has 5.0” HD Super AMOLED display.

Galaxy A5

Galaxy A5 has a 13MP AF rear camera with LED Flash and  5.0MP front camera. It comes with 16GB internal memory + micro SD slot for up to 64GB and 2GB RAM. The traditional 2,300 mAh battery is capable of addressing the youth demand. But China has a growing population who are moving to 4G networks.
