Korean devices vendor Samsung addressed the demand for a metal phone with the launch of Galaxy Alpha.

The company is yet to announce the price.

Samsung added the new phone ahead of Apple iPhone 6 launch in September. Indications are that Apple will announce the iPhone 6 on 9 September.

The Korean consumer electronics vendor did not offer when it introduced Galaxy S5. There were wide spread demand for quality phones from Samsung.


“The Galaxy Alpha features a sophisticated design in a carefully constructed compact body with a metal frame and a solid finish, while still maintaining the flagship Galaxy experience. Elegant and practical, the Galaxy Alpha is the optimal convergence of style and cutting-edge technology. Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics.

The other demand was for a new look phone. Samsung said it has taken a fresh approach to design with the Galaxy Alpha.

Features of Galaxy Alpha include 4.7” HD Super AMOLED (1280 x 720), less than 7 mm thick, Octa Core (Quad 1.8GHz + Quad 1.3GHz) processor, 12MP (rear) + 2.1MP (front) camera, 2GB RAM, internal memory  of 32GB, no micro SD slot and 1,860 mAh battery.

Connectivity options include WiFi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac HT80, MIMO(2×2), Bluetooth: 4.0 BLE / ANT+ USB 2.0 and NFC.

The Galaxy Alpha also includes features such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Finger Print Scanner, Private Mode and connectivity with the latest Samsung Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2 wearables.

Galaxy Alpha will be available in September. At launch, it will be available in Charcoal Black, White, Gold, Silver, and Scuba Blue, with available colors to be determined by market.
