At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, Huawei today announced key specifications and launch plans of four new smartphones — MediaPad X1, MediaPad M1, Ascend G6 4G, Ascend G6 – and its first wearable device TalkBand B1.
Recently, Canalys said Huawei edged past Lenovo to claim third place in 2013, albeit by fewer than 5 million units. Huawei held third place in Q4, as it did in Q3, which helped it take third place for the full year too. While China continues to account for the vast majority of its shipments, growth has been helped by success in the Middle East and Africa.
Huawei MediaPad X1
Huawei MediaPad X1 that comes in a full aluminum alloy unibody, weighs 239 gram and 7.18mm thin. Its 7-inch 1200 x 1920 FHD LTPS touch display features an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio, the company said.
Key specifications of Huawei MediaPad X1 include 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 5000 mAh battery, 13MP Sony Exmor R BSI rear camera, 5MP front camera, etc.
Its 5000 mAh battery provides 21 days of standby time, over five full days of continuous use, and reverse charging.
MediaPad X1 features a 13MP Sony Exmor R BSI rear camera and panoramic shooting. Its 5MP front camera with Huawei’s self-focus tips, preview screen, 10-level auto-facial enhancement and voice-activated hands-free capture is perfect for taking the best ‘selfies’. The ‘Voice Photo’ function takes a photo accompanied by a 10-second audio clip that can be shared via Facebook and WeChat.
Huawei TalkBand B1
Huawei TalkBand B1 is the company’s first smart watch that will compete with Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Neo.
The first wearable device from Huawei features wireless calling with a Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece, up to seven hours of calls and 1.4-inch flexible OLED display. It supports Android 2.3+ and iOS 5.0+ compatible devices, and syncs effortlessly via NFC.
Huawei TalkBand B1 wirelessly tracks activity time and progress, including steps taken, miles covered and calories burned. It intelligently records sleep duration and quality, while the smart alarm and nap functions assist rest.
It weighs 26 gram and is 14.6mm thin. TalkBand B1 features a bendable curve design with a removable 9.4g earpiece. The 90 mAh battery lasts for six days and charges in two hours using the USB connector.
Huawei MediaPad M1
Huawei MediaPad M1 features an 8-inch 800 x 1280 HD IPS multi-touch capacitive screen with Huawei SWS technology, dual front-facing speakers and microphones for an enhanced audiovisual experience.
Specifications include 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 4800 mAh battery for 8 hours of video playing on a single charge, 1MP front and 5MP rear auto-focus cameras.
The 7.9mm slim MediaPad M1 weighs 329 gram and comes in an aluminum body.
LTE Cat4-enabled MediaPad X1 and M1 download work files in seconds and 1GB movies in one minute with speeds of up to 150 Mbps. In-built WiFi routers and 2.4/5G dual mode WiFi support with voice call and SMS capabilities provide on-the-spot connection.
AirSharing function enables screen sharing and the transfer of images via cloud photo sharing. MediaPads X1 and M1 feature the latest intuitive interface, Emotion UI 2.0, with customizable homescreens, enhanced ‘Standard’ and ‘Simplicity’ UIs and over 1,000 diverse themes.
Huawei Ascend G6 4G
Huawei Ascend G6 4G features 4.5-inch qHD 960 x 540 LCD display, 245PPI. At 7.85mm slim and weighs 115 gram.
Ascend G6 4G is available in black with light gunmetal grey or rose gold highlights, or in white with pink or champagne gold.
Huawei Ascend G6 also comes in a 7.5mm 3G version available in black, white, pink, gold or blue.
Huawei Ascend G6 4G features 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2000 mAh lithium polymer battery, Emotion UI 2.0, etc.
Ascend G6 4G offers an enhanced smartphone camera experience with Huawei’s self-focus tips and preview screen. The four plastic element (4P) lens featured on the 5-megapixel front-facing camera provides audio controlled spontaneous snapping, auto-scene recognition and auto-facial enhancement.
Featuring 88 degree wide-angle shooting, Ascend G6 4G enables all-inclusive photos that will wow viewers. Add an extra dimension with the ‘Voice Photo’ function that takes a photo and records a 10-second audio clip to accompany it, shareable via Facebook and WeChat.
