Huawei may discontinue Ascend brand

Huawei may drop the Ascend brand for its consumer mobile products.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 flagship, which was released in September last year, could be the last model to have the Ascend name, according to media reports.

Huawei will have a more distinct naming convention, where it will just carry the name Huawei alone, accompanied by the model number of the particular device.

Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone launch

That would mean the successor to the Huawei Ascend P7 will be called Huawei P8.

The company has launched many devices in the Ascend series and has also managed to impress critics and consumers with its smartphones.

Huawei is expected to unveil the P8 smartphone in March this year. The successor to the Ascend P7 is believed to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD resolution.

It will be powered by an octa-core Kirin 930 CPU paired with 3GB of RAM. It will also feature a fingerprint scanner and will have 32GB of native storage.

To ensure the new high-end handset is desirable for a longer period of time, Huawei is preparing to come with a premium flagship smartphone, the P8, at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March of this year.
