Fire HD Kids tablet with “worry-free” guarantee starting $149

Amazon unveiled the new Fire HD Kids Edition, the first tablet built from the ground up for kids. The device is priced $149 for the 6-inch model and $189 for the 7-inch model.

Fire HD Kids Edition comes with a 2-year “worry-free” guarantee—if it breaks, the company will replace it, Amazon said

The Kids Edition includes one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited so kids get unlimited access to 5,000 books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games without any additional cost.

“Kids break things, so we added a 2-year, no-questions-asked, worry-free guarantee. Plus, you’ll never be surprised by a bill—it comes with a year of FreeTime Unlimited, which includes over 5,000 books, movies, TV episodes, educational apps, and games at no additional cost,” said Peter Larsen, vice president, Amazon Devices.

The Kids Edition is powered by a quad-core processor. Other features includes HD display front- and rear-facing cameras, Dolby Digital audio, and access to Amazon’s content ecosystem of over 33 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, and Android apps and games.

The tablet also packs Amazon FreeTime, which provides innovative parental controls that encourage learning before play and that help manage screen time.

It allows parents to select all of the content their kids can see, and can also limit their kids’ screen time by content type. FreeTime also blocks stores and in-app payments.

FreeTime Unlimited is included with Fire HD Kids Edition at no additional cost—a value of up to $120. The tablet includes a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited.

FreeTime Unlimited has the content kids want, including characters like Harry Potter, Lightning McQueen, Dora the Explorer, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Curious George.

The tablet will start shipping in October and will be available for pre order at amazon website.
