Microsoft Cortana now available in major markets of Europe

Microsoft has launched its Cortana digital assistant in France, Italy, Germany and Spain. Now users from these countries will be able to access an alpha version of Cortana.

Microsoft is rolling out an update to the Windows Phone Developer Preview program to which will enable additional languages for Cortana.

“Most of the features in the beta version are available but some are missing or coming soon.” said Microsoft’s Marcus Ash.

The flight tracking and transit data features are available in big cities only, Microsoft has promised to enable these features soon.

Cortana will also show European soccer data, and local “chit chat” jokes. Microsoft’s Cortana expansion follows just days after the company enabled some festive chit chat responses.

Cortana supports features that are currently present in the Windows Phone version, such as reminders, calling people, location and mapping, launching apps, and checking weather information.

Cortana has been launched as Microsoft’s planned makeover of the future operating systems for Windows Phone, Windows, as well as Xbox One.

It is currently available to all users of Windows Phone 8.1 in the United States, China, and the United Kingdom. Users in India, Canada and Australia can also choose the beta for the American English version of Cortana.

The company expects Cortana to be available globally by early 2015.
