Karbonn Titanium Mach Two S360 and ASUS Zenfone 5 — two under-Rs 10,000 smartphones — are in our crosshairs today.

They don’t weigh too much on the middle-income buyer’s pocket. But do they tip the scales in their favour in terms of value for money? We take a look.

Let’s get the price part out of the way first. The Titanium Mach Two S360 is selling online at Rs 9,715 (it will soon be available also in brick-and-mortar stores of Karbonn). The ASUS Zenfone 5 is selling at Rs 9,999 (yes, that’s under 10,000).

Coming to common features, both models support two SIM cards. They are also on a par in terms of display size. Both have 5-inch, HD IPS displays with 720×1280 pixels resolution. The screens of both devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. And the phones run on Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

In terms of connectivity, too, the phones share the following features: 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, FM radio, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth 4.0.

ASUS ZenFone 5 scores slightly higher than the Titanium Mach Two S360 with its 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor paired with 2GB RAM. The Mach Two S360 has a slower 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

The phones are roughly similar in their camera performance, too. The Mach Two S360 has an 8MP camera with LED flash on the rear side and a camera of the same configuration in the front. The Zenfone 5, too, has an 8MP rear camera with the added option of autofocus. Its front camera, though, is a less powerful 2MP device. The former might be a better choice if you require your phone to do quality imaging.

But Titanium Mach Two S360, although matching Zenfone 5 in built-in storage at 8GB, has only 32GB expandable microSD card memory when compared with 64GB expandable memory offered by Zenfone 5.

The Karbonn Titanium Mach Two S360 also lags in battery power compared with Zenfone 5. While a 1900mAh battery powers the Titanium Mach Two s360, a non-removable Li-Po 2110 mAh battery powers the ASUS Zenfone 5.

Overall, it appears Asus Zenfone 5 offers a slight advantage over Karbonn Titanium Mach Two S360.
