BlackBerry today announced the availability of PRIV, a slider smartphone with keyboard and powered by Google Android, from carriers in North America.

The price of PRIV smartphone is $699.

AT&T in the U.S., Bell, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, and WIND in Canada are selling PRIV. You can also find the first Android smartphone from BlackBerry from its online store.

John Chen, executive chairman and CEO, BlackBerry, said: “With BlackBerry’s patented keyboard and the full complement of applications found in Google Play, this device expands our cross-platform strategy and gives end users the best in security, privacy and productivity, with no compromises on applications.”

It comes with 3410mAh non-removable Lithium Ion battery, while Wireless Charging is available in the United States only.

The smartphone is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology. But you need to buy the accessory separately.

3410mAh non-removable Lithium Ion battery offers up to 22.5 hours mixed battery life, up to 23.9 hours talk time, up to 17.6 days standby time, up to 72.7 hours audio playback and up to 10.2 hours video playback.

The DTEK by BlackBerry app for Android monitors and reports on application access to the microphone, camera, location and personal information, enabling users to keep their personal data is private.

BlackBerry’s manufacturing process injects cryptographic keys into the device hardware, providing a secure foundation for the platform.

The ailing smartphone maker has embedded keys to verify every layer  like hardware, OS and applications in order to avoid security lapses. This apart, BlackBerry made modifications to harden the Linux kernel with numerous patches and configuration changes to improve security.

BlackBerry PRIV can be integrated with EMM solution which offers cross-platform management of PRIV and other devices.

PRIV has a 5.4-inch immersive dual-curve OLED display, resolution of 2560×1440, pixel density of 540 PPI – 4x the amount of pixels of a standard HDTV.

BlackBerry PRIV comes with 18MP camera, certified by Schneider-Kreuznach.

You can find Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. 32 GB of onboard storage and support for micro SD cards up to 2TB will be enough for your storage needs.
