Apple has sold more than 13 million new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus models three days after launch.

The latest smartphones from Apple will be available in India on October 16.

“iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be available in India, Malaysia and Turkey on Friday, October 16 and in over 130 countries by the end of the year,” said Apple in a statement.

The launches of the two new iPhones will be the fastest ever introduction of its smartphones in India. Previously, the Cupertino, California-based technology giant has never introduced a phone within 30 days of its launch in India although demand for the premium smartphone has been continuously growing in the country.

Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook, who discussed the company’s plans in India with Prime Minister Narendra Modi — who was on a two-day visit to the Silicon Valley — said that Apple was looking at making iPhones in India.

Cook told the prime minister that Apple has a major connect with India and that the company’s co-founder, the late Steve Jobs, went to the South Asian country for inspiration.

Apple said it will roll out its latest smartphones to more than 40 countries beginning October 9.

The technology company has broken its own record of 10 million iPhones sold in the first weekend of 2014, benefiting from the inclusion of the Chinese market, where the gadget’s debut was delayed last year by regulatory issues.

“Sales for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history,” said Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook.

“Customers’ feedback is incredible and they are loving 3D Touch and Live Photos, and we can’t wait to bring iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus to customers in even more countries on October 9,” Cook added.

The company also said that every customer who buys an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus at an Apple retail store will be offered free personal setup service, helping consumers customise their iPhone by setting up email, showcasing new apps from the app store and helping them get the phone up and running before leaving the store.

Apple customers can also learn more about iOS 9 and their new device through free workshops at all Apple retail stores worldwide. In the US, the new iPhones are available through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and additional carriers, and select Apple authorised resellers including Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

The company, which will launch its new phones in 40 countries starting October 9 and also launch in three other countries including India on October 16, said that sales completed by Saturday, September 26, would be included in Apple’s 2015 fourth fiscal quarter results.

Apple said that sales completed on Sunday, September 27, will be included in Apple’s 2016 first fiscal quarter results.

Apple is selling iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for $0 down with 24 monthly payments starting at $27 and $31, respectively, from Apple’s retail stores in the US, Apple.com, select carriers and Apple Authorized Resellers.
