Intex Technologies has announced partnership with Jolla for incorporating the sailfish OS in their portfolio.
With this, Intex Technologies becomes the world’s first licensing partner to utilize Sailfish OS 2.0, the company said.
Intex views this partnership as a befitting opportunity to establish itself as the first Indian smartphone player to bring in this revolutionary new OS to India, the company said.
Sailfish India has plans to develop a unique Indian mobile ecosystem which will lead to greater differentiation in the market meaning more choices for consumers and higher user satisfaction.
Sanjay Kalirona, head Mobile Business, Intex Technologies, said, “We are very excited to be the world’s first licensing partner for Sailfish OS and look forward to utilizing the great user experience of the next generation Sailfish OS 2.0 in our products.”
Kalirona added, “Together with the Sailfish India ecosystem partners we believe that we can provide an exciting new choice for smartphone lovers in India and later globally as well. With an open platform like Sailfish OS we have a magnificent opportunity to offer great locally relevant premium content to our customers, all integrated directly into the smartphone’s operating system.”
India is the biggest market for Jolla in BRICS thanks to the growing penetration of mobile phones.
Antti Saarnio, executive chairman of Jolla, said, “We have seen a lot of interest among Indian mobile device manufacturers, digital media houses, and operators, and they are all very keen to work with an alternative to the currently dominating mobile operating systems. India needs and deserves its own regional mobile ecosystem, an open platform, which supports local Indian services and businesses.”
