Samsung Electronics, Micromax and Apple are the top tablet vendors – based on their market share — in India last year, said IDC.
The market share of Samsung is 18.7 percent, Micromax 8.9 percent and Apple 7.5 percent last year, the market research agency said on Wednesday.
IDC says tablet shipments in 2013 reached 4.14 million units with 56.4 percent increase over 2012.
IDC said the Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung outperformed its competitors with strong presence in 7-8 inch screen size. Despite a dominating presence, the vendor has scaled down its volumes owing to changing market dynamics.
The Indian smartphone vendor Micromax retained its rank, primarily due to their value for money proposition and concerted marketing efforts.
IDC noted that the American device major Apple has shown significant growth in 7-8 inch screen size despite its niche positioning. iPad Mini was noted to be well accepted by the Indian tablet market, supported by installment payments for consumers.
IDC report for 2013 does not reflect CMR’s tablet market share report for Q3 2013. According to CMR, Samsung, Lenovo and Datawind are the top Indian tablet vendors in the third quarter of 2013. The tablet market share of Samsung is 15 percent in Q3, Lenovo 13.3 percent and Datawind 12.4 percent.
The CMR report says tablet vendors such as Apple, Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo, etc. are not finding any place in the top three rankings. CMR said the tablet market increased 9 percent to 1,204,410 units in the third quarter of 2013, driven by 3G and enterprises.
