Karbonn on Mediatek platform to launch new smartphones on 19 March

Indian devices vendor Karbonn Mobiles in association with chip major Mediatek will launch a couple of new smartphones on 19 March.

The company has invited select media for a press meet in Delhi. The press conference will be attended by Karbonn Managing Director Pradeep Jain and Finbarr Moynihan, Mediatek GM – international sales and marketing.

Recently, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, Microsoft said it is working with Foxconn, Gionee, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer, JSR, Karbonn and ZTE to supply its Windows Phone platform.

Software major Microsoft said the main aim is to develop phones on new price points for emerging telecom markets and expand its OS market share. The new list of OS partners is in addition to existing partners — Nokia, Samsung, HTC and Huawei.

This week, Nokia announced its X series of smartphones with Google Android support which did not receive good feedback from Indian mobile users and analysts.

According to forecast from CMR, 41.1 million smartphones were shipped in India in 2013. 65.8 percent of total smartphones shipped in the country were 3G smartphones during CY 2013.

Karbonn is the 4th largest mobile phone brand in India in Q4 2013, according to IDC. Karbonn has an annual sales turnover of Rs 2,300 crore in FY 2012-13. Karbonn has over 60,000 retail partners and more than 600 service centers across the country. Karbonn has international presence across the geographies of Africa, South & South East Asia and Middle East.

Last week, Karbonn Mobiles announced the launch of Karbonn Kochadaiiyaan Series of smartphones.
