Nokia Lumia 1020 priced at Rs 49,999: Does it worth opting

Nokia Lumia 1020, the much hyped camera phone from the Finnish devices major, is available for pre-orders at a price of Rs 49,999.

As the mobile phone users know, the phone business of Nokia will be sold to Microsoft in a deal valued at $7.2 soon. Nokia brand of phones will disappear as well. Many Nokia fans in India and abroad are disappointed due to the transaction. But the deal did not deter Nokia from launching its premium phone — Nokia Lumia 1020.

Nokia listing says that the phone will be released by the third week of this month, though the company has earlier said that it will hit the stores on October 11. This means the camera phone will be available before Diwali, one of the major festivals in India.

The official Nokia site says the price would be Rs 49,999. But an e-commerce site has a different pricing option.

For instance, online retailer Snapdeal.com is taking advance bookings for Lumia 1020 at Rs 48,778. As per the listing, the official price of the smartphone is Rs 62,999.

The latest smartphone with high-end camera is primarily aimed at fans, who are looking for better camera capabilities. Nokia says Lumia 1020 re-invents zoom. But how many users would opt for a high-end camera, which is the top attraction, on a smartphone. Both phone and camera have different functions. Camera cannot be replaced with a camera phone though Lumia 1020 has better camera features.

Nokia’s PureView technology, including optical image stabilization, enables users of the device to produce the sharpest images possible by any digital camera, the company claims. New application called Nokia Pro Camera is assisting users to take professional quality images.

Dual capture feature allows users of the Nokia Lumia 1020 to simultaneously takes a high resolution 38 megapixel image for endless editing opportunities, and creates a 5 megapixel picture that is easy to share to social networks with Windows Phone 8, Nokia said.

The camera capabilities are endless. Nokia Lumia 1020’s 41 megapixel sensor features ZEISS optics with six physical lenses, plus optical image stabilization, delivering crystal clear pictures even in low light conditions. It captures blur free videos with stereo sound even at the loudest concerts thanks to Nokia Rich Recording, which handles sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones.

Hipstamatic showcased Oggl PRO, an exclusive application for the Nokia Lumia 1020 offering the most advanced smartphone camera controls for their creative community. It was also announced that popular applications Vine, Path and Flipboard will soon be available on Windows Phone.

Nokia Camera Grip is an accessory that complements device features usually reserved for stand-alone cameras, like the Nokia Lumia1020’s built-in xenon flash and mechanical shutter. Nokia Camera Grip also has a tripod mount.

The other features are not new. Users have seen these features with other Lumia phones.
