MWC 2014: Gionee to demo world’s slimmest smartphone priced at $370

Gionee today said ELIFE S5.5, the world’s slimmest smartphone with 5.55mm thin, will cost you $370 in China.

The new smartphone will be available in India and other markets in the second quarter of 2014.

ELIFE S5.5 will be displayed at the Mobile World Congress 2014.

The ELIFE S5.5 is crafted with a distinct metallic frame and Corning Gorillas Glass Uni-Body. It uses the world’s thinnest AMOLED Screen, thinnest PCB board with a 0.6MM and 0.4mm glass rear cover.

“Gionee ELIFE S Series will focus primarily of design and style moving forward from its predecessor ELIFE E series that focused on camera and build quality,” said Arvind R Vohra, India Head – Gionee Smartphones.

ELIFE S5.5 specifications include 5.0” Super AMOLED Plus display, Octa-Core 1.7GHz CPU, single SIM, 13.0MP AF +5.0MP AF Camera 95 Degree Ultra-Wide Angle, AMIGO OS 2.0 (based on Android OS, V4.2),: 16GB+2GB memory, 145.1 x 70.2 x 5.55mm, 3.5 mm Earphone Jack, WIFI/GPS/BT4.0/FM/G-sensor and non-removable 2300mAh battery.

The GIONEE ELIFE S5.5 is available in Black, White, Blue, Pink, and Purple.

The ELIFE S5.5 supports HSPA+42 Mbps with up to 6 different band sets, which allows it to function in most 3G WCDMA coverage areas as well as enabling global 3G roaming. Meanwhile, the LTE version will also be available in June.

As for the camera software, it is similar to the ELIFE E7 which consists of two shooting modes, the professional and normal camera settings, as well as the availability of the “Charm Camera” which includes auto make-up mode, footprint mode, and meeting memo mode features which were only available to the flagship model ELIFE E7.

With the ELIFE S5.5, the battery is just as good as the flagship model ELIFE E7. The highest capacity density ratio allows S5.5’s battery to reach 2300mAh. And with the next upgrade, battery capacity can be reach up to 2450mAh.
