Sony Mobile’s Xperia ZR vs Xperia Z

Sony Mobile says its waterproof phone Xperia ZR will be available in global markets in Q2 2013.

The company did not disclose the price of the new smartphone.

The new smartphone has the similar look of other phones from the Xperia series.

The main features of Xperia ZR – an Android smartphone – include 4.6″ HD Reality display, 13 MP camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, and 4G LTE.

Both Xperia ZR and Xperia Z support 2G, 3G and 4G.

The main difference between Xperia Z and Xperia ZR is the former offers TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors, while the new smartphone features HD Reality display.

Xperia Z offers Qualcomm MDM9215M / APQ8064 chipset. Xperia Z comes with 13.1 MP camera.

Both Xperia Z and Xperia ZR are on Android OS, v4.1.1 (Jelly Bean).

The waterproof capabilities allow mobile users to shoot videos in full HD or snap pictures underwater. The camera key allows mobile phone users to shoot even from a locked screen.

Xperia ZR features Exmor RS for mobile image sensor with HDR (High Dynamic Range) for both photos and videos.

Xperia Z features accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, etc.

Superior Auto mode combines Scene Recognition with performance image processing technology (HDR and noise reduction) to automatically shoot with the most optimal settings.

Mobile phone users can turn on burst mode to shoot an unlimited number of images at 15 frames per second.

Xperia ZR’s battery STAMINA Mode feature improves the standby time of smartphone by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and starting them up again when the screen is back on.

Xperia ZR’s battery offers standby time of up to 470 hours on 2G, up to 520 hours on 3G and up to 450 hours on 4G / LTE.

Xperia Z offers non-removable Li-Ion 2330 mAh battery that provides stand-by time of up to 550 hours on 2G and up to 530 hours on 3G.

Xperia ZR’s battery offers Talk time of up to 11 hours on 2G and talk time of up to 13 hours on 3G networks against Xperia Z’s offer of up to 11 hours on 2G and up to 14 hours on 3G.

The OptiContrast panel reduces reflections and provides clearer viewing.

Both Xperia ZR and Xperia R offer 2GB RAM.

Xperia ZR’s memory card slot supports up to 32GB against 64GB with Xperia Z.
