Devices vendor Samsung Electronics on Monday announced the launch of the Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone that comes with slightly better features than its predecessor model.
Samsung Galaxy Grand, its predecessor, is now available for Rs 17,475 on some of the online channels, after crashing from the earlier price of Rs 21,500.
The new model of Galaxy Grand will be available in India from January 2014. The price will be between Rs 22,990 to Rs 24,990.
The Indian mobile users are expecting further reduction in the price of Samsung Galaxy Grand since the upgraded version will be launched in January 2014.
The main changes are in size (+0.25-inch screen), battery (+500 mAh battery) and memory (+0.5GB RAM).
Specifications of Samsung Galaxy Grand, the first version, include 1.2 GHz Dual Core processor, 5-inch Capacitive Touchscreen, 8 MP primary camera and 2 MP secondary camera, Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, 2100 mAh battery and 1 GB RAM.
Specifications of Galaxy Grand 2 include a 5.25-inch HD screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB internal storage, up to 64GB microSD card support, 1.5GB RAM, 8MP rear camera with LED flash, 1.9MP front camera, 2,600mAh battery, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS, etc.
Connectivity options available with Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 include 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0.
Samsung claims that 2,600mAh battery can provide talk time of 17 hours and up to 10 hours of video playback.
The phone will be available in white, black and pink colours in the market.
Galaxy Grand 2 phablet, which comes with 13.3cm HD screen, has a larger screen, more RAM and bigger battery than its predecessor Galaxy Grand which was successfully sold in India this year.
Addressing a press meet in Mumbai on Monday, the Korean smartphone vendor said Samsung has for the first time introduced a single destination – Club Samsung – for its Indian infotainment content. Club Samsung digital entertainment store features music, movies, Gigs & live TV – optimized for better display on Samsung devices.
Vineet Taneja, country head, Mobile and IT, Samsung India said the launch of Club Samsung will significantly elevate user experience in terms of features, content and services.
Some of the apps that come preinstalled in Galaxy Grand 2 are Story Album, S Translator, S Travel, Sound & Shot, Samsung Hub, Samsung Link and Group Play.
Considering the likely price, Galaxy Grand 2 will compete with smartphones such as Sony Xperia C, LG G Pro Lite and Micromax Canvas Turbo.
