Nokia and Sony have come up with products under both budget and luxury categories. But they also have a number of mid-range offerings for Indian customers. The latest in the series are Nokia Lumia 520 and Sony Xperia E1.
To start with the differences, Lumia is Windows based and Xperia is Android based. However, these phones have got lot of similarities and lot to offer to the customers. Let us find out what do they offer.
Both the phones arrive at a price that suits Indian customers, as Lumia 520 costs Rs 7,338, while Sony Xperia E1 costs Rs 7,480.
Design & Display
Nokia Lumia 520 comes with tablet styled features where as Sony Xperia E1 comes with built in neon lights. One of the most common things about these smart phones is that they have got a 4 inch screen. However Sony Xperia E1 has got 233 ppi based display whereas Nokia Lumia 520 has got 235 ppi based display. Another similarity between both smartphones is that they have screen resolution of 480×800 pixels.
Sony Xperia E1 has got TFT screen whereas Nokia overshadows Sony this time with IPS LCD based special screen. Though TFT based screen is also good but IPS based LCD screen offers more polished and smooth performance. Both of these smart phones have got scratch resistant screen.
Sony Xperia E1 comes with a 3 mega pixel camera whereas Nokia Lumia 520 comes with a 5 mega pixel camera. It is obvious that 5 mega pixel camera is far much better as compared to 3 mega pixel one. Sony offers geo tagging and face recognition, whereas Lumia offers sensor size, geo tagging and autofocus, giving Nokia a slight advantage over Xperia E 1.
As far as processor power is concerned Nokia Lumia 520 comes with a Dual Core 1 GHz Krait based processor. Its model is Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus MSM8227. Whereas Sony Xperia E1 comes with Dual core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A7 processor with special Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM 8210 system chip.
Sony Xperia comes with a 4 GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32 GB through SD card, while Lumia comes with an 8 GB internal memory, which can be expanded upto 64 GB via SD card.
Comparing the operating system in both, Nokia Lumia 520 comes on Windows 8 platform and Sony Xperia E1 on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform. Someone who would like to experience the smooth and flexible browsing experience would find the Android based Xperia a better choice.
Though the devices have lost of similarities, it’s the camera feature that puts Lumia 520 slightly ahead of Xperia. For people who want to have a better camera, Lumia is an obvious choice while Sony would be the perfect for those who wants to enjoy the flexibility that Android offers.
