The main similarity is -both devices are crafted in partnership with LG. Nexus 5 is a bigger phone than Nexus 4, though the company is yet to officially call it a phablet. Nexus 5 has screen size of 4.95-inch and 1920 x 1080 display (445 ppi). Its screen with Full HD IPS and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 has better clarity than the old version. The screen size is 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59 mm and 4.59 ounces (130g). This means the new phone is slightly lighter.
On the other hand, Google Nexus 4 comes with 4.7-inch screen. It has 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (320 ppi). It does not have HD capabilities and instead used WXGA IPS. Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is used in Nexus 4. The new version has Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The size is 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm, while it weighs 139g.
Though both Nexus 4 and 5 versions have 8 MP main and 1.3 MP front cameras, the rear camera of Nexus 5 comes with optical image stabilization capability.
Nexus 5 smartphone is positioning itself as the phone that supports 4G LTE network in all global mobile markets.
On the other hand, Nexus 4 supports unlocked GSM/UMTS/HSPA+, GSM/EDGE/GPRS (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), 3G (850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz) and HSPA+ 42.
Nexus 4 comes with 8 GB or 16GB internal storage with 2 GB RAM.
In the case of Nexus 5, Google is offering a choice. Mobile phone users can select 16GB or 32GB internal storage.
Nexus 4 has 2,100 mAh Lithium polymer against Nexus 5’s 2300 mAh battery. Nexus 5 battery promises talk time up to 17 hours, standby time up to 300 hours and Internet use time up to 8.5 hours on Wi-Fi, up to 7 hours on LTE.
Google Nexus 5 is the testing phone for Android 4.4 KitKat fans. Other phones will start using this OS later. Nexus 4 has the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS but it can be upgraded to JB 4.3.
Nexus 4 sports Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, while Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 2.26GHz is powering the new smartphone.
The significant differences are display, screen size, battery, processor, camera capability, network compatibility, OS, etc.
