WeChat has announced that it has reached 549 million monthly active users (MAUs) globally, compared to the 500 million user base achieved three months ago in fourth quarter of 2014.
According to GWI’s report, India has seen 113 percent increase in the number of people utilizing mobile messaging tools since 2013.
In November, the active user base in India grew by 2364% from Q1 2013 to Q3 2014 and is expected to continue expanding in future as WeChat introduces more new app features.
More than 80 percent of the WeChat user base are aged between 16 years to 34 years.
“We will continue to focus on enhancing user interaction by broadening the activities from messaging and video/voice calling to gaming, entertainment, media content and beyond,” said Nilay Arora, VP Marketing and Business Development, WeChat India.
