Samsung has announced the launch of its new smartwatch, Gear S2. The watch comes with a new circular design with custom UX and advanced features.
The Gear S2 will come in two variants, the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic. The watch measures only 11.4 mm in thickness and sports a 1.2-inch circular screen with its 360 x 360 resolution and 302 ppi.
The smart wearable is backed by a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS. It is also IP68 certified dust and water resistant.
The device has 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage capacity.
Health apps include S Health and Nike+ Running. The 24-hour activity log lets users view daily activity progress and patterns at a glance. It will also send reminder updates to motivate users to stay on track with their fitness goals.
The Samsung Gear S2 also uses the NFC technology for enabling the mobile payments.
The company is also working with its partners across different industries to expand the usability of wearables, including smart car keys, residential room keys, and remote controls to manage a connected home.
The Gear S2 offers up to 2-3 days of battery backup with its 250mAh battery. The 3G version of the Gear S2 has a 300mAh battery. It comes with a wireless charger.
On the connectivity front, the Gear S2 offers Bluetooth, WiFi and NFC, while the sensors included are Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer

The Samsung Gear S2 will be available in a Dark Gray case with a Dark Gray band and Silver case with a White band. The Samsung Gear S2 classic will be available in a Black case with a Leather band.
The smartwatch will be showcased at Tempodrum, Berlin on September 3.
